Our Story

The day that changed everything happened on a scorching summer afternoon in Sydney. I was Emma Mitchell, a former professional netball player, standing in my garage surrounded by piles of workout gear that had failed me yet again. After retiring from professional sports, I'd thrown myself into CrossFit, trail running, and yoga, but kept facing the same frustrating reality: women's fitness apparel simply wasn't designed for serious athletes.

That evening in 2019, drenched in sweat from testing yet another "moisture-wicking" top that hadn't lived up to its promises, I called my brother Jake, a textile engineer. "There has to be a better way," I told him. "Australian women deserve performance gear that actually performs."

From Frustration to Foundation

What began as a passionate conversation quickly evolved into late nights researching fabrics at my kitchen table in Bondi Beach. We collected feedback from my network of athletes across Australia, testing prototypes during weekend training sessions that turned into impromptu design workshops. My garage became our first warehouse, where we'd package orders while discussing how to create leggings that could handle both the intensity of a HIIT session and the unforgiving Australian sun.

Beyond the Basics

Today, PlayProGear has grown into something I never imagined possible, but our Australian roots and athletic standards remain unchanged. Every piece in our collection is developed and tested in the challenging conditions only Australia can offer – from the humidity of Queensland to the unpredictable weather of Melbourne.

We design for women who push boundaries, whether they're scaling mountains in Tasmania, competing in CrossFit competitions in Perth, or navigating the busy streets of Sydney between yoga and work.
